What fuel

Hi all after a series of classics i have just recently purchased my first Rover P6 2200sc. I have been told that these run on un leaded fuel without any additive is this correct ?.

I run mine on super unleaded and I've done about 12000 miles without problems. I started off on regular unleaded with an octane boosting additive, but it seems to run better on super with no additive.

I run my 3500 on Shell VPower petrol which is the super unleaded. I use the Millers VSPe additive not for the lead replacement (which I believe they don't need) or the octane boost (though I can see no harm in having those benefits) but to protect the car against ethanol which can rot fuel lines. Hope that helps.

Another vote for Shell V Power from me. The higher octane stops it pinking.
I add Castrol Valvemaster to reduce the risk of damage to the valves. While some say it's not needed, a previous 2000TC engine suffered serious valve seat recession after running it without an additive for a while. With decent cylinder heads becoming scarce, it's definitely not worth the risk, IMO.

Unless you have hardened valves put in (Clive Annable is able to have the head converted - seats + valves) no 4 pot is able to deal with unleaded petrol in the long term.
For the long term health of a 2000/2200 you should be using super unleaded and an additive like castrol valvemaster. Its important to keep the timing spot on and a 2000TC should not be run on anything less than super unleaded.
The 2200 were designed to need "less" lead in petrol with the high performance TC model requiring only 4star.
