Starting my descent into madness with a P6

All was going reasonably well, then..... After investigating some not very pleasant noises while driving the other day, I've discovered that some (well almost all) of the bolts between the bell housing and trans have come loose, and done a tour of the inside before trying to make their way...

Starting my descent into madness with a P6

Some progress has been made, rear brakes sorted with rebuilt calipers and a replacement pair of discs, all road legal but now a question. I need to get it starting and running a bit better, things are generally a bit tired which is fine for what I want to abuse it for, but still needs to work...

My wife doesn't mind the motorbike, or the convertible, but is keen to get out making v8 noises in the rover just for something different. There have however been some hat purchases to suit roofless travel.

Now you've got me thinking that I need to keep track of how many fixit jobs have been done on the thing, so far I think I'm up to 5 at home, and will be another 4 by the time it gets back from the garage. Will have to put a scoreboard on the wall, but I'll leave the $ amount buried in a drawer...

Thanks, will have a look on Facebook, and see if I can track someone down in the Nelson club.

Starting my descent into madness with a P6

Well the car has successfully made it to a workshop with a hoist to get the rear brakes looked at, and a general once over to see what else might need attention. Short answer is that there's a lot that needs attention, but nothing that is serious enough to abandon the attempt so far... What I...

Starting my descent into madness with a P6

Well some progress has been made. The old choke cable has been replaced, fortunately I found a near new almost exact replacement, which has been run without the almost 90° bends of the previous stuffed one. Also sorted out the incorrectly assembled linkages on the carbs, so they don't run into...

    Hello from New Zealand

I'm in Christchurch, the car got a trailer ride from there to it's new home, certainly got plenty of looks from the roadside as it was going by.

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks for the info, yes will need to have a good look around at what bits are necessary to keep the water out. I've already found that it's leaking around the fuel filler and what I can see of it looks very old and cracked, so that needs to be fixed so the boot is actually usable without...

    Hello from New Zealand

I think there is probably a bit of that, like most things that end up in my garage these days it's old enough to come with a collection of someone else's bodges or cockups that need fixing. To start with I probably need to track down a parts book, so I know how it's supposed to go together...

Starting my descent into madness with a P6

I'm really not a fan of chopping holes in door panels for speakers either, or any other part of a car for that matter. But as the centre console has already had the crap bashed out of it and the car isn't in mint condition I'm not too bothered, and it's a bolt on part that could be put back to...

    Hello from New Zealand

Cheers, that kind of adds to something I suspected, it has a bit of a strange noise when revved which sounds like something is touching where it shouldn't be. At first thought it might have been missing a cylinder but sounds fine from the engine bay and exhaust, and only sounds odd when sitting...

Starting my descent into madness with a P6

As posted in new members, I have probably ill advisedly purchased a 75 P6 3500 V8, in almost fully functional condition. This mainly stems from a couple of recent old car outings which prompted me to go looking for something british that's a bit scruffy but driveable to hack about in. After...

    Hello from New Zealand

Thanks that's useful to know, it's had a windscreen replaced recently so a good place to start, and all of rubber is pretty shagged so wouldn't be surprising. Also your photo has also shown me where the spare pipe sticking out near the wiper motor is supposed to go, which I have worked out from...

    Hello from New Zealand

Hello everyone. I've just (possibly very foolishly) purchased a 74 P6 3500 in slightly rough condition, but so far seems reasonably mechanically sound, and the only work needed to get it roadworthy is a rebuild of the rear brake calipers The old girl may get tidied up a bit from how it is now...
