    Fuel leak

Ok, so the spilt wasn’t the whole story… Just been to the folks for lunch, got there ok, ate lunch (very nice it was too) and then set off back to work again. Quarter mile or so and splutt, the engine cuts out. Same procedure as last time (minus the...

    Fuel leak

I think the mice have been getting into the engine bay again… tiniest of splits in the fuel line which was surprisingly difficult to spot. Sorted that out and then spent a very pleasant afternoon test driving the car. Down side is I now need another excuse to quit work…

    Fuel leak

Right… Car has been fine for some time now. Drove to work this morning with no problems. Drove home lunchtime; again with no problems. Set off back to work (and I’m beginning to think this was my first mistake), got about a quarter mile, went over a speed bump and the engine cut out. Tried...

Spring Compressors - Suitable for front suspension

Just to huff some life into this ol’ thread… I’m in the process of, amongst other things, fitting new rear springs. I also took a quick look at the front but decided they didn’t need messing with. I was, however, curious to see how the front springs would come off. I’ve got an old pair of...

Auto box - selector adjustment - I'd swear if my mum would let me...

So what you're saying is I got the rod lengths wrong.... Could someone confirm my measurements please. 18 1/2, 13 1/2 and 7 15/16.

Auto box - selector adjustment - I'd swear if my mum would let me...

The selector was never removed, the two horizontal rods were disconnected from the bottom of the selector during the engine/gearbox swap. The knob/detent button was removed at a later date during work on the inside of the car.

    Turn Key, Nothing - Non-Starter

There's an inhibitor on the gearbox to stop the car being started whilst in gear, I don't think you get any noise from the car if this is what's causing the problem (no clicks etc.). Recent experience with a dodgy solenoid... but I got a single click when turning the key and a gentle tap with...

Auto box - selector adjustment - I'd swear if my mum would let me...

The old cave paintings I have showed a nut at each end of the rod and given the absence of these I was reluctant to proceed until I'd floated this on the forum (I'm in no way an experienced grease-monkey!). The plastic end caps both look to be intact and complete. Plenty of lube under there...

Auto box - selector adjustment - I'd swear if my mum would let me...

Question... I replaced my engine not so long ago and after the work was done the gearbox selector "gates" seemed to be in the wrong places (e.g. you could go from D to N without pressing the button which isn't as useful as you may first think!) Forgive the non-technical description here but I...

    P6's on the telly

True Cockneys are born within the sound of Bow Bells (St. Mary le-Bow which is Cheapside, so not really "Eastenders" and such). I was raised in Germany and still get asked what part of London I come from, even when I use my best BBC Hobson's... Brewer probably falls into the same category as...

Stroppy solenoids - A busy week

First, let me say that kids who break glass bottles in car parks should have their ears nailed to their knee-caps... Second, Biscuit checked out ok last night, and speaking to the old man he echoed what you said Dick, guess there's a lot to be said for occasionally checking these things– cheers.

Stroppy solenoids - A busy week

Richard, Biscuit is a 2200SC Auto. A few weeks back I took the old 3-pot engine out (it was leaking oil from almost every orifice and one cylinder joined in when it felt like it – well, it had done about 120k miles) and popped in a 63k mile oil-tight engine from my donor car (a 2200SC manual)...

Stroppy solenoids - A busy week

Weekend-before-last I was tinkering on the car, it started ok and ran for a while, then I turned her off to do something else and when I came to turn her back on I got a single click and nothing else. All the dashboard lights came up ok, the blowers blew and such, but no ignition. I thought to...
