Remarkable, like new!

Decided to tackle some blistering on top of rear wing, so had the remove rear quarter panel to remove. Perhaps it's because my world has been MGs, but removing anything fills me with trepidation, as my past experience always uncovered rot. Seeing this has made my day!
Just back from a Highland tour. First trip further than a couple hours from home. Carb overflowed again, out the blue. This time I adjusted the float height a little, and all was well thereafter (though I can't recommend the side of the A9 for such matters). Still, practice makes perfect ...... Off and back on in 45 mins. Stopped in at a friend's, and as a precaution fitted the new fuel filter I had bought. Which led to the reserve tap leaking. So fitted new o-ring (thanks Geoff at Wins!). Old o ring was totally shot, waiting to happen. All good. Though roadsides and friends garages are pushing the term rolling restoration a bit far perhaps, nonetheless, my wife remains patient with the madness!

Sanded, jenolited, skim of finishing filler, sanded, primed, painted, waxoyled in behind, reassembled. Being very amatuer I can add patina as I go Beer o clock.

@Mick Rae I can't see the repair! Did you do the wing top? Shame you're so far away, both my rear wings need fixing in the same place!

Today was MOT day. I realise I don't actually have to, but given its me who is doing the majority of the upkeep on the car, and that I spend most of the winter taking things to bits/replacing stuff/fixing etc, I wanted the bit assurance that another set of eyes gives. Unlike any modern car I own, old 40 Shades of Brown was given a clean pass, no advisories. Was mentioned that it can be a bit tricky to get into first gear - I find that happens after reversing, and just needs reverse re-selected and then first gear (I know, I need to investigate, but got used to it and am enjoying driving until winter) and that the drivers door lock is hard to unlock with key (additional security system - if you push the key upwards a little whilst turning it all is fine). I am rather pleased with this result, think its the first time I've ever not faced an MOT repair bill/hassle, these old Rovers are where its at!

So chuffed with everything I even got round to washing. I was very unsure of the colour previously, but its really growing on me..............though I would consider a black vinyl roof, but for now, too busy using the car to rake anything lese to bits I think. Since I redid the sills in black the car looks less slab sided to me, and I think that a black vinyl roof might work, though unsure with such a dark paint colour. Opinions or examples very welcome - there is no rust on roof currently, so I am presuming not a huge job for someone who knows what they are about?

Thank you for the link to your car and roof work. That black vinyl roof against your light paint colour looks excellent. I think perhaps the greater contrast you have makes it, not sure how it would be on an already dark paint colour like I have. No rush, will ponder this and get some to work some Photoshop magic for me. I've always wanted a car with a vinyl roof, black was just the default in my head, maybe I'll investigate other colours with Photoshop......I did think a light brown, but that's maybe too many browns on one car!

Headlamps.
Yesterday I had my first Rover drive in the dark. I came up a road I was familiar with, a longish drive, few hours. It's a journey I have been doing in various cars over the last 30 odd years, and, even comparing to my 4 year old daily car, the p6s headlights, on full beam, are in a different league. Best night drive in terms of illumination I have had, in terms of light output and throw, really dramatically better than any other classic or modern I have owned. Or is it just me (though my wife also noted how powerful the lamps were ....... though she stopped listening when I started banging on about sealed beams Vs bulbs)?

I genuinely have heard it said that "they all do that..." Mine certainly do, although I'm usually going from stopping in 3rd perhaps to selecting reverse which is helped by selecting 1st, first ;).

Isn't it something to do with the 1st & reverse being on the same shaft or something? :hmm:

Hi, I'd always thought it was about stopping the revolving parts of the g'box. Reverse and sometimes first are 'crash' gears and need to be stationary otherwise they graunch. Selecting a synchromesh gear uses the synchro cone to stop the gear train's inertia, to make the crash ones engagement silent. Especially if clutch drag is present or the whole box is hot and the hot oil has less drag.

The leather seats were awful worn in places. Fair enough, so am I. Pictured is one of the better areas, some bits were brown as opposed to Buckskin.
