leak

hi all, i have an oil leak somewhere high up on my manual gearbox. its above the oil level filler plug. is there anything obvious to look at when i get under there the weekend. i lost about 1ltr in a month.

The only joint above the filler plug is between the main casing and the top cover, which doesn't have a gasket and I've never known leak, plus the plate that holds the detent springs in place, which can weep but I've not known pour oil out of there either, as there isn't much of an oil supply there. Obviously there is a gasket between the main casing and bellhousing, but I can't see that getting to where you say the oil is coming from. There are also selector shaft seals, but they tend to run off down the back of the box, not down the side. I reckon you need to get under there with a torch and the Mk1 Eyeball.

is there a breather on the manual box

hi harveyp6, sorry when i said above filler plug i meant higher than, not directly above. it is running down back of box below selector rods. but could it be breather pipe hole blocked and pushing out of seals. box was rebuilt dec 19.

Then it could be the selector shaft seals. They are slightly tapered, (or should be) and if you don't realise that it would be easy to fit them the wrong way around. If it were me I'd thoroughly clean everything, see where its coming out of for certain and go from there. If it is the selector shaft seals than the box will have to be removed to replace those anyway.

hi all,
im fed up with the leak on my 3500s manual gearbox that leaks from selector seals. rather than take it out and have them replaced with no guarentee it wont still leak i have the offer of a lt77 5 speed box.i know i read on here a while ago about conversion but cannot find it again. so basically i have a basic box with no bell housing or remote. will the housing off my 4 speed fit, what remote do i need, is clutch different, and is there anything else i should be aware of. many thanks.

does anyone know the part number for the bellhousing you need to fit lt77 box to p6 v8 so i know what im looking for please.

Gripper, have a look over on the facebook Rover P6 Club page, either on there or facebook Rover P6 Spares, Cars for Sale, Wanted. There was a chap just the other week who had on offer at least three Rover V8 bellhousings to fit the LT77.

If you are handy with a mill and can weld, you can repurpose the auto one with an adapter plate like we did on my car when I went LT77 and later, Jag.
