looking to buy a p6 3500

If the sills are full of filler then water will leech through it as it's porous. Ask me how l know.
It may not be that though, water can get inside by various ways & means, it might be a grommet or two missing in the bulkhead. That's the easy fix.

Falks and Rovering Both made excellent comments something I haven’t thought of Falks mentioned there the AA inspection great idea
Yes Rovering is right another great idea would be for missing grommets also the top of the doors can let in water if there not tight to the rubber, I remember a good friend of mine every time he was looking at a car he used the pound trick he went round every panel to see if a pound would fit in the gap between wing or the door ect maybe it was because he was taking his time I think and not rushing things he could spot the panel not correctly aligned or over spray from a repair he could spot it.
The guy was a sellers nightmare in a nice way.
I think all cars have a story to tell
the biggest lessons I have learned is to take my time. If the seller has someone lined up for the car so what there are lots more out there. if he’s unhappy replying to your questions then you have to ask why.

Everything is solvable at a price. I've never had a P6 that has rotted at the heater area so it's not something that happens to all of them but shouldn't cost a fortune & everything is available should it be the case. It would be a relatively straightforward fix, especially if you can weld.

I've got two that had that problem. The 64 car - very little rot elsewhere though - and the NADA had a rotten aircon heating box.

I found getting the box apart was a problem in its self but it’s possible,
you don’t know what’s going on underneath until you remove it.

If I was going to repair a heater box - which I will eventually - I'd ask Alexandra to do it for me. She's done a few now, and does a really good job. Repairs, paints, and even puts the original style stickers back on, if I recall.

She has the purple series 1 2000 Automatic :)

Hi Ricky yea that's good mate .good to see your using it I did buy one for similar money with quite a bit work done .I was really looking for one in a darker colour to be honest otherwise your car was very good and well worth what your asking.
Richard

RICH777 You sent an email re the Rover I was offered. I have a Mercedes for sale ,mainly as I just dont use it I needed to have a resto.project and the Rover in question didn`t seem to need any work .Someone called Stuart from Glasgow is the owner ,I obviously don`t want to give his address out, without his permission, however I am sure he will see the message. From the photos he sent me inc.those of the restoration,it looks superb with nothing to be done on it.As I said it would only be a case of me selling my Merc.as it needs nothing doing, for a similar car.If you don`t have areply from him I will try yo contact him Len

Yes that's fine I can wait for your merc to sell not a problem. I'm thinking this car is solid runs very well but needs tidying seems like just what you need
Let's see worth a go
What colour was his one

Rich to save you thinking I may be interested in restoring a Rover P6 . Once the Merce des sells,I will possibly belooking at an older model to restore. This is what I have been doing for years.Hope you manage to sort another one out.Stuart`s car looked stunning and seemed very genuine Len
