O/S/R Caliper (Girling)

Hi. I would like to ask for some advice on changing o/s/r caliper (girling) on a 1971 Rover P6 2000SC. Is it possible to just take off one side, as mentioned? I have already dropped half shaft and removed disc for easy access. But I'm now unsure whether the hose connecting the two calipers can be removed whilst on the car without bursting them, unlike the main feed pipe that has a union which I can disconnect metal pipe from flexi pipe. I was hoping to just remove clevis pin from the link lever on the o/s/r caliper and remove pivet pin to remove caliper.

Any help would be great.
Many thanks, Gareth.

UPDATE

I've tried to remove hexagonal headed plug on pivot pin for rear caliper. The socket keeps slipping off as if it is not on far enough. Just wondering if the hexagonal nut is just a locking tab and the bolt head is underneath. So, can I bend back the tabs then put on the socket and bar to slacken it?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

You can just remove the OSR caliper on its own, but you need to slacken the hose that goes to the NSR caliper, and then unscrew the caliper off the end of the hose once the pivot pin and handbrake linkage have been removed. Putting it back on means starting the thread on the hose into the caliper which can be fiddle but is possible as I've done lots that way.

Hi harveyP6. Thanks for your reply. Did you have any difficulty removing brake pipe from the flexi pipe on the n/s/r union? I'm finding that lack of room with spanner is making the job hard. I've soaked it with penetrating oil, but it's difficult to separate pipes. Lock nut on bracket is hard to get to. The lock nut for the flexi is slack so the whole thing is turning slightly, but I can't get to it to tighten it, which might help me to loosen the domed brake pipe union.

Again, many thanks. I've never worked on P6 rear brakes before and want to be familiar with them for the future.

When removing an OSR caliper I never touched any of the fittings on the NSR caliper. As I said, I slacken the hose between the calipers where it screws into the OSR caliper, and then once the caliper is free, I unscrew the caliper off the end of the hose.
