Mounting Brackets for Square Eights

Can anyone help me with the above items? I require 2 brackets for the 2 lights. I.E.: 1 for Fog & 1 for Spot lights. Only I have arranged for a mobile electrician to wire them up, but he can't fit them without the brackets.

Many thanks

Paul

There isn't any wiring to do, it's all in the loom already. It just needs plugging in behind the glovebox and the lights plugging in behind the headlights. The brackets are easy to make as well.

J R Wadham sells repro brackets.

Hi, Or as you can guess you could cut and drill a piece of angle, offset the holes so the bolts, nuts or spanners don't interfere with each other.

Colin

harveyp6, have now received 2 brackets via J R Wadhams. however I still have no idea how to fit them or where? Under the overriders or the bumper? Also (continuing my ignorance of such things as these) where do they plug in exactly plus where do they plug in behind the headlights? Sorry to be a pain in the ass, but I really don't know!

Kind Regards

Paul

Now when it comes to wiring these lamps up, am I right in saying the wires behind the headlights are coloured "Blue & Yellow"??

That's what I remember them as.

And where in the Glove-box are these wires & what colour are they?

There will be the other end of the Blue/yellow, and then there is a a single wire that powers up when the foglights are switched on, (which I can't remember the colour of) and you plug one into the other.

Many thanks everyone. As usual you've all exceeded expectations.
As I am away until July 8, nothing will get done till then or shortly after.

Another problem has just reared its head, the Brake Servo has now packed up. So can any member help me with getting either a new one or a replacement.

One thing after another, oh the joys of classic car ownership!!

I too want fit some Square 8s. I have found the wiring behind the passenger glovebox and assume I just need to fit the blue and yellows to a double bullet socket and then fit a couple of male bullets to some wire to join the two; but thought I'd check in case there is a conventional/accepted way. Also, I have found the blue and yellow wired bullet connectors behind the headlamps but can't find any earth connections ready to plug into. Should there be some, or do I just fabricate something? No doubt someone has done all this many times before; but I haven't so would appreciate some words of wisdom!

There is a connector block that all the earths go into behind the headlights. There is a spare socket in these connections to accommodate a fog light earth. They are bullet connectors. When you wire them up and turn switch to fog lights the headlights will go out this is supposed to happen.

Many thanks. I shall try to find the connector block. I have a feeling that a few things have been changed on my car since 1970, including headlights, but at least I know now what to look for. As for the connections in the glovebox, do you have any observations ? I have checked the light switch and the headlamps do indeed go out when the red/yellow fog lamp feed becomes live, so that's something that has not been changed.

The earths are black and there’s one each side. You will see a spare hole for the fog light earth. The wires behind the glove box just need to be connected together simples. The headlights extinguish because they reflect back off the fog and dazzle you. The fog lights are low to just light up the road in front.

Thanks again. I shall explore with an inspection lamp tomorrow. Since the headlamps work they must obviously be earthed so there are connector blocks hiding somewhere in the depths amidst the grime. Re glovebox: i have two blue/yellow wires ending in male bullets; one red/yellow with female bullet connector, so one male would fit the female but not both. But as long as they all get linked I don't suppose the style much matters. I doubt that I'll ever use the fog lamps much anyway: don't fancy getting out at every patch of fog to take the covers off!

Just investigated wiring: no earth connector blocks present, just a number of separate black wires with some single bullet connectors evident, but no spare sockets to plug into. I can trace several of them coming together at a point below the coil on one side and at a similar distance on the other - too far for existing wires on the fog lamps to reach. Perhaps the blocks were a later idea? Mine was built Aug 1970 and seems to be the oldest mk 2 p6b around, reg 01/10/70 concurrent with model launch. I am now left wondering whether the blue/yellow wires I can see behind the headlamps are actually connected to the two I can see behind the glovebox, given the quality control of the period! My meter cables don't stretch far enough to test easily. I think as well as making up a connector to join the two loads to the one feed I'll have to make new earth connections from the lamps too.

If you have single bullet connectors for the earth's, part them, remove them and fit double bullet sleeves in their place, then you will have spare capacity to plug in earths from your lights - simple !

To test blue / yellow continuity from front to glovebox just connect piece of wire to one of the blue / yellow's at the front and take it to the glovebox and use your meter there - simple !
