My first p6

Yes proper engine and vitesse box, this was my everyday car and my red 3500s was my best non modified one.
Doesn't show on this picture the vitesse wheels.
Really miss it, was written off by a drug driver.
Managed to keep all the best bits though.
Clive.

note there is a growing push on question of mot free road tax that now is we have point being given by DVLA ? for modifications ( unless fitted prior to a certain date) .so for example a different engine.. fuel injection etc can add up enough points to fail gaining an historic car acceptance ..needing MOT forever ..tax too then become an issue.
even changing gearbox can add points. I did look at fuel injection conversion kit at NEC. sadly it was too expensive for my shallow pockets to fit so I consoled myself with knowing I wont have to worry about getting too many 'points'.

I wonder how these so called experts are going to inforce that points system, they would have to be p6 specialists / worked at the factory.

The points system has been in place for about 30 years, it's not new. Fuel injection wont lose the engine point, a different engine of the same type won't lose the point either.

terrible the car was written off  too many of our prized P6s are

but just curious about the Sd1 vitesse engine, there must be a story here, what prompted the need for a new engine at all?

Rover was involved in motorsport, hence the need for a more powerful engine. Different pistons raised the compression ratio to 9.75:1, waisted stem inlet valves improved gas flow. Engine power lifted from 150HP to 190HP, and the Vitesse could accelerate from 0 to 60mph in a smidge over 7 seconds from memory. Actually I have just remembered, it was under 7 seconds at 6.9!

In my p6 the acceleration was a smidgen slower but the top speed , well would touch 130mph no problem.

My first P6 & a very disrespectful friend who l still associate with. Not quite as fast, an Allegro once left me for dead at the lights.
And I never did tighten up that fog light.

Rovering Member that photo is priceless!! :D you look about 25 in that photo, how did you end up with a Rover 2000 at that time? would love to know
that must be the 1969 S1 2000TC - Bruiser

I bought NKT599M in 2002. The previous owner had lowered it, fitted polished SD1 Vanden Plas alloys, a dual exhaust, bullet mirrors, front spoilers, and rebuilt the engine with a few upgrades. It also had a sliding steel sunroof, a dealer fitted option. I'm looking very proud in this photo because I had just replaced the rotten drivers side doors and front wing with rust-free panels and the painter had done a great job matching the arctic white. When I moved to Germany later that year I discovered so much hidden rust in the Base Unit I eventually scrapped the car, but I've retained the sweet engine in the P6 I drive today. I don't want to admit how many parts of this car I've hoarded, but I'll get around to advertising them on here soon once I've photographed it all!

It was 1981 & l was 20, the car was a 1970 series 1-1/2. I ended up with her because l was an early admirer of the P6 & the bank loaned me £500. I later wrote her off under the back of a parked lorry, parked on a dual carriageway which is still no excuse.

This is Bruiser.
